SHINTY A Short History of the Game. As the title of this book indicates, REV. J.N MacDonald does not pretend to have written a complete and adequate record of the Scottish national game. Both scantiness of leisure and limited facilities for research have debarred him from undertaking a work of such a magnitude. As a constant admirer of the game and a quondam partaker in many a contest, he frequently found pleasant recreation in dipping into such historical works as came within his reach. Whenever he discovered a reference to Camanachd, it was custom to make a note of it.
Later these rough notes were shaped into some kind of logical and chronological sequence as articles for the Fort Augustus School Magazine. They are here collected and published with some additions.
